Getting started

Install MotionShine, record a clip and share it. Most people finish this page in ten minutes.

Install

Download the build for your Mac from the download page. Open the .dmg, drag MotionShine onto Applications, then eject the disk image. Always open the app from Applications.

Permissions

The setup guide in the app walks you through each permission with one button. macOS asks before any app can record your screen. Allow Screen Recording for MotionShine in System Settings, Privacy & Security. Allow Microphone and Camera only if you want your voice or face in the video. If a permission seems stuck, quit the app and open it again from Applications.

Record your first clip

  1. Open MotionShine and choose what to record: the whole display, one window, or an area.
  2. Pick a microphone and turn the webcam on if you want it.
  3. Press record. After the countdown, work as you normally would and click where you want attention.
  4. Press stop. The editor opens with zooms and the smooth cursor already in place.

Adjust the zooms

Every click became a zoom on the timeline. Select one to change its level or timing, drag it to move it, or delete it. Add a zoom anywhere you want extra focus.

Style the cursor

In the Cursor tab, choose a style, colour and size, and turn on click effects or click sounds. Your last choices are remembered for the next recording.

Background and padding

Choose a wallpaper, gradient, colour or image behind the recording. Set padding, corner radius and shadow until the frame looks right.

Captions

Generate captions on your Mac, fix any word in the list, and pick a style. Export them inside the video or as separate .srt and .vtt files.

Export

Open the export dialog, choose MP4 or GIF and a preset for where the video is going, then export. It runs in the background so you can keep editing.

Activate your licence

The free version exports up to 720p at 30 fps. A licence unlocks 1080p, 1440p, 4K and 60 fps. Open Preferences, go to Licence, and paste your key. If you cannot find it, use the Licence Manager.
