FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can not find an answer? Contact support.

Is it a subscription?

No. MotionShine is free, and a licence is a one time payment.

What do I get for free?

Everything, with no time limit: unlimited recordings, unlimited exports and every feature. It is not a trial. The only limit is export size: up to 720p at 30 fps. A licence unlocks 1080p, 1440p, 4K and 60 fps.

Is there a watermark?

No, not even in the free version.

Which Macs does it run on?

Macs with macOS 13 Ventura or later, both Apple silicon and Intel.

How is it different from Screen Studio?

Both make polished recordings with auto zoom and a smooth cursor. MotionShine adds music on its own lanes, animated text, pictures and logos, 3D cursors and cursors made from your own pictures. It is free with unlimited exports, and you pay once only for higher resolution instead of a monthly plan. See the full comparison.

Where do my recordings go?

To Movies > MotionShine on your Mac. They never leave it unless you share them.

If I buy a licence later, can I export old videos in 4K?

Yes. Recordings are always kept at full quality, so any project can be exported again at 4K and 60 fps.

How much is a licence?

A licence is $XX, paid once. The price is shown at checkout before you pay.

Who handles payment?

Polar is the merchant of record. It runs checkout, collects any taxes and issues your licence key. We never see or store your card details.

How many Macs can I use one licence on?

One licence covers [two] Macs that you own and use yourself. You can move it to a new Mac from the Licence Manager.

Do you upload my recordings?

No. Recording, editing, captions, voice clean up and export all happen on your Mac. The caption model downloads once, the first time you make captions, and updates are checked only if you allow it.

Does it work offline?

Recording and editing work offline. Downloading the caption model, update checks and licence activation need an internet connection.

Is there a video editor too?

MotionShine already includes a full editor with a timeline, music lanes, text, masks and voice over. A separate editor, MotionShine Edit, is coming later.

I did not get my licence key or the sign-in code. What now?

Check your spam folder, then confirm you used the same email you bought with. If it still does not arrive, email [email protected] with your order details.

The app keeps asking for permission. What should I do?

Allow Screen Recording in System Settings, Privacy & Security, then quit the app and open it again from the Applications folder. Opening it from the disk image or Downloads makes macOS forget permissions. The setup guide in the app walks you through each permission.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Read the refund policy for the window and how to ask.
