Guide
Halloween is on 31 October every year, so the days until Halloween are the calendar days from today to that date. The countdown above shows them as one big number, then the exact days, hours, minutes and seconds to the start of 31 October on your clock. As a worked example, on 18 October 2026 there are 13 days to go until Saturday 31 October 2026.
Halloween is October 31. The US Census Bureau's Halloween page is titled with that date (checked 18 Oct 2026, Census Bureau Halloween page), and says some trace the tradition of costumes and trick-or-treating to the Celtic festival of Samhain. Only the weekday moves.
| Year | Date | Day of the week |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | October 31 | Saturday |
| 2027 | October 31 | Sunday |
| 2028 | October 31 | Tuesday |
| 2029 | October 31 | Wednesday |
| 2030 | October 31 | Thursday |
| 2031 | October 31 | Friday |
| 2032 | October 31 | Sunday |
| 2033 | October 31 | Monday |
Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2026. The weekday moves one day later each year, and two days when a 29 February falls in between, which is why 2028 is a Tuesday.
From 18 October to 30 October 2026 there are 13 days. Counting today, the page shows 10 weekdays and 3 weekend days left. 18 October is a Sunday, 24 and 25 October are the next weekend, and 31 October itself is not counted. That is 10 plus 3, which is the 13 days. Planning a costume, a party or a trip to buy sweets is easier when you can see how many free days remain. The count does not know shop hours or school dates, so check those yourself.
In the United States, daylight saving time ends at 2 am on the first Sunday of November (checked 18 Oct 2026, NIST daylight saving time page). That Sunday can never be earlier than 1 November, so the US clocks never change before Halloween. In 2026 they go back at 2 am on Sunday 1 November, a few hours after Halloween night ends.
The UK and the EU change on the last Sunday of October (checked 18 Oct 2026, GOV.UK clock change dates). In 2026 that is 25 October, so Halloween falls after the clocks go back there, and it gets dark an hour earlier by the clock. In 2027 the last Sunday is 31 October, so the clocks change on Halloween itself. For the exact change for any place, use the daylight saving time dates page.
Halloween starts at midnight on each local clock. When it is midnight at the start of 31 October in London, it is 8 pm on 30 October in New York in 2026, because the clocks in the US have not yet gone back and New York is 4 hours behind. Pick a place under Time zone to count to its midnight.
The count runs to the start of 31 October, which is midnight. If your party or your walk starts in the evening, the time is later than that. An event at 6 pm starts 18 hours after midnight on the day, so the count above is 18 hours too long for it. To count to the exact hour, set 31 October and the start time in the countdown to date.
In the eight years in the table, Halloween falls on a Saturday or a Sunday in 2026, 2027 and 2032, and on a weekday in the other five. When it lands on a weekday, you may plan for the nearest weekend instead. The count of days left helps either way. From 18 October 2026, for example, there are 6 days left on Sunday 25 October, 3 on Wednesday 28 October and 1 on Friday 30 October, since 31 minus the date of the month gives the days left.
To count to a party or any other date, use the countdown to date. The next big date after Halloween is Christmas.
