Guide
An anagram solver finds the words you can make by rearranging a set of letters. A true anagram uses every letter exactly once, so LISTEN becomes SILENT. This solver puts those full anagrams at the top, then shows words that need one extra letter and the shorter words hidden inside your letters, which is what a word game or a crossword often needs. It also has a checker for two words or phrases, and it works offline once the page has loaded.
LISTEN has four anagrams in the word list: enlist, inlets, silent and tinsel. The tool shows them without the word you typed. It also finds 18 words that use all six letters plus one more, such as listens, glisten and salient, and 52 shorter words of 3 to 5 letters.
EARTH has two anagrams, hater and heart. STARE has six: aster, rates, resat, tares, taser and tears. A short word like STOP has five: opts, post, pots, spot and tops.
| Letters | Anagrams | Words with one more letter | Shorter words (3 letters and up) |
|---|---|---|---|
| listen | 4 | 18 | 52 |
| earth | 2 | 22 | 23 |
| stop | 5 | 16 | 6 |
| race | 2 | 35 | 6 |
These counts are for the Most words setting, which is the default. Counts rise if you pick Include rare words.
A ? stands for any single letter. With one blank, the solver looks for words that use your letters plus one more of its own choosing. Letters that came from a blank are marked in colour, so you can see which letter you would need. Blanks work only in the Solve mode, and the One more letter group is hidden when you use one, because a blank already covers that case.
Switch to Check two words, type a word or phrase in each box and read the verdict. Case, spaces and punctuation are ignored, so Dormitory and Dirty room are anagrams of each other: both use the same nine letters: d, i, m, o, o, r, r, t and y. The table lists every letter with its count in each phrase and marks the ones that differ. When the answer is no, it names the letters one side has and the other lacks.
The words come from SCOWL, a free spell-checker word list by Kevin Atkinson, in the 2016 release. The default list holds the 107,541 words that American, British, Canadian and Australian spellings all share, from everyday words to rare ones. It has no names, no abbreviations and none of the newest slang, so a word from a recent game or a brand will be missing. Words that differ by country, such as colour and color, are not in the default list. Tick Add spelling variants to include them. Your own game may allow words this list does not, or reject words it has, so check its dictionary for a final answer.

Questions
An anagram is a word or phrase made by rearranging the letters of another one, using each letter once. Listen and silent are anagrams.
It counts how many times each letter appears in your input, then keeps every word in its list that needs no more of any letter than you have. Words that use all the letters are the anagrams.
They overlap. This page puts the full anagrams first and adds the words that need one extra letter, the leftover count and a two-word checker. The word unscrambler lists all words in a rack with tile points.
Yes for the letters. Spaces are ignored, but the solver finds single words only, not several words that together use your letters. For a phrase, the checker tells you whether your own guess works.
Up to 20 letters, plus up to 6 blank tiles. Longer input is cut to the first 20 letters, and the page says so.
The list has no proper nouns, abbreviations or very new words, and the default leaves out spelling variants such as colour. Tick Add spelling variants and Include rare words, then look again.
Yes. There are no ads, no sign-up and no limit on searches. Your letters are matched in your browser and never sent anywhere.
It lists valid English words from its own list, which is not the official list of either game. Check a doubtful word in the game's own dictionary.
