Guide

How many days until Valentine's Day, and how it is worked out.

Valentine's Day is on 14 February every year, so the days until Valentine's Day are the calendar days from today to that date. The countdown above shows them as one big number, then the exact days, hours, minutes and seconds to the start of 14 February on your clock. As a worked example, on 18 October 2026 there are 119 days to go until Sunday 14 February 2027, which is 17 weeks exactly.

How to use the Valentine's Day countdown

  1. Read the big number for the calendar days left, and the boxes for the exact time.
  2. Under Time zone, keep your own zone or pick another place. This helps if you plan to call or send something to someone far away.
  3. Check the Valentine's Day falls on card for the day of the week, and the Weekdays left and Weekend days left cards to plan.
  4. Press Full screen to show it on a display. Press Copy link to send the page, or Copy result for one line of text.

The date never changes

Valentine's Day is February 14. The Census Bureau's page for it (checked 18 Oct 2026, Census Bureau Valentine's Day page) quotes the Library of Congress that the origins of the day are murky, and that Americans celebrate on February 14. Only the weekday moves, and leap years never change the date, because 29 February comes after 14 February.

YearDateDay of the week
2027February 14Sunday
2028February 14Monday
2029February 14Wednesday
2030February 14Thursday
2031February 14Friday
2032February 14Saturday
2033February 14Monday
2034February 14Tuesday

In 2027 it is a Sunday, so a weekday dinner is off the table. In 2029 and 2030 it is a Wednesday and a Thursday.

It always lands on day 45 of the year

January has 31 days, so 14 February is day 31 plus 14, which is day 45 of the year, in every year. That is a quick check on the count: from 1 January to Valentine's Day is always 44 days. To see the day number of any date, use the day of the year calculator.

A count that crosses New Year

From autumn, the count goes across the turn of the year. From 18 October 2026 to 14 February 2027 it is 13 days left in October, 30 in November, 31 in December, 31 in January and 14 in February: 13 plus 30 plus 31 plus 31 plus 14 is 119. Divide by 7 and you get 17 weeks, no days left over. The page does all of this for you and handles the year change.

Weekdays and weekends left

The two cards split the days before Valentine's Day into Monday to Friday and Saturday and Sunday, counting today. They help you see how much time you have to book a table, post a card or order something. The count does not know shop hours, last posting dates or restaurant bookings, so check those with the business.

Time zones

The day starts at midnight on each local clock. It is already 14 February in Auckland 13 hours before it is in London, so for someone far away the day may come the evening before for you. Pick their place under Time zone and the countdown runs to their midnight.

Weekend or weekday

In the eight years in the table, Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday or a Sunday in 2027 and 2032, and on a weekday in the other six. From 18 October 2026 there are 17 whole weeks to go, so there are 17 Saturdays and 17 Sundays in the count: 34 weekend days and 85 weekdays, which add up to the 119 days.

Why the hours can shift by one

The count runs to midnight on the clock of the zone you choose. If the clocks in that place change between now and then, the exact hours left change by one, and the days by the calendar do not. A count from 18 October 2026 to 14 February 2027 in New York has the 1 November change inside it, when the clocks go back, so it holds one more hour than a count with no change.

Common problems

  • The big number and the boxes differ by a day. The big number counts dates. The boxes show the exact time left, which rounds down.
  • The page says Today. It is 14 February where you are. It then counts to next year.
  • Wrong zone. The page uses your device's time zone unless you pick another.

To count to an anniversary or a birthday, use the countdown to date. To work out an age on a date, try the age calculator.
