Emoji copy and paste, every emoji, one click.

Search or browse every emoji in the Unicode 18.0 list, pick a skin tone, and click to copy. The pictures are drawn by your own device's emoji font, so they look like the ones you see in your messages, and emoji your device is too old to draw can be hidden. A recent list is kept in this browser only.

Clicking an emoji copies it and adds it here.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.

Guide

Emoji copy and paste, and how emoji are built.

Emoji copy and paste means picking an emoji on a page and pasting it into a message, post or document. This page holds all 1,923 emoji of the Unicode 18.0 emoji list, once each, sorted into the nine groups Unicode uses, with a search by name, five skin tones for the 315 emoji that have them, and a card with the code points of each one.

How to use it

  1. Type a word such as smile in Search emoji by name, or open a group such as Animals & Nature.
  2. Click an emoji. It is copied and added to Your text. Click several and use Copy all to copy them as one line.
  3. Pick a tone in Skin tone to change every person and hand that has tones. The choice is remembered in this browser.
  4. The card on the side shows the name, the group, the code points, the HTML form and the Emoji version when it was added. Recent keeps your last 24.
  5. If you see fewer emoji than the group count, Hide emoji this device cannot draw is on. The page tests samples of each emoji version in your browser, and hides the versions your system has no pictures for. Turn it off to copy them anyway.

What an emoji is made of

An emoji is one or more Unicode code points, and your device's emoji font draws the picture. Four patterns cover almost all of them:

  • One code point. 😀 grinning face is U+1F600. In decimal that is 1 × 65536 + 15 × 4096 + 6 × 256 = 128512, so the HTML code is 😀. In JavaScript's UTF-16 it takes two units, D83D and DE00.
  • A skin tone. 👍 thumbs up is U+1F44D. Add the medium tone U+1F3FD and you get 👍🏽, listed as "thumbs up: medium skin tone". The five tones are U+1F3FB to U+1F3FF.
  • A joined sequence. 👩‍💻 woman technologist is woman U+1F469, a zero width joiner U+200D and laptop U+1F4BB. The family emoji join four people with three joiners.
  • A flag. 🇧🇩 flag: Bangladesh is two regional indicator letters. The indicator for A is U+1F1E6, so B is U+1F1E7 and D is U+1F1E9, the third after A, and together they spell BD.

The groups add up to 1,923. The full Unicode test list has 3,963 fully qualified emoji, because every skin tone form counts as its own entry. This page shows each base emoji once and applies the tone you choose.

Why some emoji show as a box

New emoji arrive with every Unicode release, and a device can only draw the ones its system fonts know. A phone or computer a few years old may be missing the newest ones, and shows a box or two pictures side by side for a joined sequence. The page tests this on your device. Someone with a newer device will still see the picture, because the code points travel with the text.

Typing emoji without this page

On a Mac, press Fn/Globe-E, or choose Edit > Emoji & Symbols, then search by word. To see skin tone or other forms, click and hold an emoji. On Windows 10 and 11, press the Windows key and the period key to open the emoji panel. Windows 11 adds tabs for GIFs, kaomoji and symbols. This page is faster when you want several emoji in a row, a skin tone applied to all of them, or the code points.

Emoji and character counts

Systems count emoji in different ways, which matters for limits. 😀 is one code point, U+1F600. It takes 4 bytes in UTF-8 (F0 9F 98 80) and 2 units in the UTF-16 that JavaScript uses, so a program that uses that count says its length is 2. 👩‍💻 is three code points, U+1F469, U+200D and U+1F4BB. In UTF-16 that is 2 + 1 + 2 = 5 units, and in UTF-8 it is 4 + 3 + 4 = 11 bytes, even though you see one picture. A site that cuts text at a set number of characters can therefore cut an emoji in half, and show a box. If a limit matters, paste the text into the character counter and check it there. The card on this page lists the code points of each emoji, so you can count them yourself.
