Guide
PST to EST means turning Pacific time into Eastern time: Eastern is 3 hours ahead of Pacific. A call at 9:00 AM in Los Angeles is noon in New York. This page is written from the West coast side. You type the time where you are and read what it is on the East coast, which is the usual question when you are planning around New York clients, investors or a team that starts its day before you wake up. The converter follows the real clocks, so PDT in summer and EDT in summer are handled without you having to switch names.
Los Angeles works 9 AM to 5 PM, and New York is three hours ahead on the clock. The East coast working day ends at 5 PM, which is 2:00 PM for you. So the East coast working day runs from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM Pacific. If your own day starts at 9:00 AM, the overlap is 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM Pacific, which is the East coast lunch and afternoon, 5 hours. A call before 9:00 AM Pacific is an early start for you, and after 2:00 PM Pacific you are talking to people who are done for the day.
| Los Angeles | New York in summer (EDT) | New York in winter (EST) |

| 6:00 AM | 9:00 AM EDT | 9:00 AM EST |
| 7:00 AM | 10:00 AM EDT | 10:00 AM EST |
| 9:00 AM | 12:00 PM EDT | 12:00 PM EST |
| 11:00 AM | 2:00 PM EDT | 2:00 PM EST |
| 1:00 PM | 4:00 PM EDT | 4:00 PM EST |
| 2:00 PM | 5:00 PM EDT | 5:00 PM EST |
The table uses Thursday 22 October 2026 and Thursday 22 January 2026. The three hours are the same in both seasons. A 6:00 AM Pacific call lands at 9:00 AM Eastern, the start of the East coast day. A 1:00 PM Pacific call is 4:00 PM Eastern, late for them.
If you publish something at 9:00 AM Pacific, your East coast audience sees it at noon. If you want it to appear at 9:00 AM Eastern, schedule it for 6:00 AM Pacific. Type the time in the left box and the right box tells you which clock the other side will read. For a launch that needs both coasts awake, the planner lists the windows where both are at work, and the green and amber strips show where only one side is.
New York and Los Angeles change at 2:00 AM local time on the same Sunday, but New York gets there first. From 11:00 PM on Saturday 7 March 2026 to 2:00 AM on Sunday 8 March 2026, Pacific time, New York is already on EDT while Los Angeles is still on PST, so the gap is 4 hours instead of 3. From 11:00 PM on Saturday 31 October 2026 to 2:00 AM on Sunday 1 November 2026, Pacific time, Los Angeles is still on PDT while New York is back on EST, so the gap is 2 hours. These hours are in the middle of the night, so they rarely matter for a call, but they matter for a scheduled job, an automated post or a stream that starts at night.
PST is Pacific Standard Time, UTC-8, used from the first Sunday in November to the second Sunday in March. PDT is Pacific Daylight Time, UTC-7. Many people write PST all year. The converter follows the clock in Los Angeles, so it answers PDT for dates in summer. If a document means a true fixed UTC-8, choose PST only (UTC-8 all year) under Read PST as, and then the gap to New York is 4 hours in summer, because New York is on EDT.
Sources, checked 18 Oct 2026. The United States rule is in 49 CFR Part 71, section 71.2: standard time moves ahead one hour at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. The US Department of Transportation says a state may exempt itself by state law. The offsets and the zone names come from the IANA time zone database (version 2026e), the same data your browser uses.
The page written from the other coast is EST to PST. For a pair with another zone, try IST to EST or GMT to EST.

Not always. Hawaii has no daylight saving time, and most of Arizona does not either, so their gap to Los Angeles changes during the year. See time in Hawaii and time in Arizona.
