Audio to sheet music, notes on the staff.

Drop in a recording of a melody, a piano part or a guitar line and see it written as sheet music: notes on a staff, bar lines, the tempo and a piano staff when the notes need both clefs. Set the tempo and time signature, then save a PDF to print, MusicXML to finish in MuseScore, or MIDI. The AI listens in this tab, so your recording is never uploaded.

How it works

From sound to score.

01 / Listen

Notes found

Spotify's open Basic Pitch model hears which notes play and when, even chords.

02 / Write

On the staff

The notes are placed on beats at the tempo, split at bar lines and tied, in treble, bass or both clefs.

03 / Save

PDF, MusicXML, MIDI

Print the PDF, or open the MusicXML in MuseScore, Finale or Sibelius to add dynamics and lyrics.

Questions

Good to know.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The AI model, Basic Pitch by Spotify (Apache 2.0 licence, 230 KB), runs in this tab, and the score is drawn here with OpenSheetMusicDisplay (BSD licence).

How accurate is the sheet music?

It is a first draft. A clear recording of one instrument, played in time, gives a readable score. Fast passages, a full band, heavy reverb or a free tempo give more stray notes. Open the MusicXML in a notation app to tidy it.

Why are the bars in the wrong place?

The tempo is guessed from where the notes start, and a recording that does not start on the first beat shifts everything. Type the real tempo; if you played to a click, use that number. The BPM finder can tell you the tempo of a song.

Does it know the key?

The score is written in C with sharps where needed. Find the key with the song key finder and set it in your notation app.

Can it write out a song with singing and a band?

Take the parts apart first with the stem splitter, then give it the vocal or the piano on its own.
