Audio to MIDI, notes from a recording.

Turn a hummed melody, a piano take or a guitar riff into a MIDI file you can open in GarageBand, Logic, Ableton or any DAW. Spotify's open Basic Pitch model listens in this tab, shows the notes on a piano roll and plays them back, so your recording is never uploaded. No sign-up, no limit.

This runs in your browser. Your recordings are never uploaded.

How it works

Three steps, nothing to install.

01 / Drop

Choose a recording

One instrument or a voice works best: a melody, a piano part, a guitar line.

02 / Listen

See and hear the notes

They appear on a piano roll. Press Play, and adjust how many notes to keep.

03 / Save

Download the MIDI

Open it in your music app to change the sound, fix notes or add parts.

Questions

Good to know.

Which AI model does it use?

Basic Pitch by Spotify's Audio Intelligence Lab, released under the Apache 2.0 licence. It is small, 230 KB, and is served from this site. For every 12 milliseconds of sound it says how likely each of the 88 piano keys is to be playing, and the page turns that into notes the same way Spotify's own package does.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The model runs in this tab, so the sound never leaves your computer. No account and no limit.

What works best?

One instrument or one voice at a time, recorded clearly: a sung or hummed melody, solo piano, a guitar line. A full song with drums, bass and vocals gives a crowded MIDI file; split it first with the stem splitter and convert one stem.

Does it keep pitch bends and the instrument's sound?

No. The file has the notes, their timing and how loud each is, set to Electric Piano 1 at 120 beats a minute. Slides and bends are not written, and the sound comes from whatever instrument you pick in your music app.

What do the settings do?

How many notes sets how sure the model must be that a note starts. Note length sets how long a note is held as it fades. Shortest note drops very short notes, which are often noise. Each change updates the piano roll and the file at once.

Why does the preview sound plain?

The Play button uses a simple synth so you can check the notes. The MIDI file is the real result; it sounds like whatever instrument you choose in your music app.
