Cl to liters converter, a hundred centiliters make a liter.

To convert cl to liters, divide the centiliters by 100. So 75 cl is 0.75 L, 50 cl is 0.5 L and 5 cl is 0.05 L. Move the decimal point two places to the left. A centiliter is a hundredth of a liter, which is 10 mL, so the conversion is exact. You see cl on bottles and cans, and in cocktail recipes, instead of mL.

How to use the converter

Where the 100 comes from

Centi is the SI prefix for one hundredth, 10^-2 (BIPM list of SI prefixes and NIST metric SI prefixes, checked 26 Oct 2026). One cL is 0.01 L and 10 mL. So cL is a handy size for a drink: a shot is a few centiliters, and 75 of them make a standard wine bottle.

These sizes are the same volume in four units. 27 CFR 4.72 lists 750 mL, 375 mL, 500 mL, 330 mL and 355 mL among the metric sizes allowed for wine in the US, so the cl number is a label way of writing the same volume. Checked 26 Oct 2026.

Worked examples

• A 75 cl bottle. 75 ÷ 100 = 0.75 L, or 25.361 US fl oz.
• A 33 cl can. 0.33 L, or 11.159 US fl oz, a little under 12.
• A 70 cl bottle. 0.7 L.
• A cocktail with 4 cl of spirit. 0.04 L, 40 mL, or 1.353 US fl oz.
• A US shot of 1.5 fl oz. Swap the boxes: 1.5 fl oz is 4.436 cl.

Centiliters and US ounces

One US fluid ounce is 2.95735 cl, so a cl is 0.33814 of an ounce. A rough rule: 3 cl is about 1 fl oz. For a cocktail that calls for 6 cl, that is about 2 fl oz (the exact figure is 2.029). The UK and US ounces are not the same size, and a UK fl oz is 2.8413 cl, so use the US figure only for US ounces.

Mistakes to avoid

The first is dividing by 10, which gives deciliters. The second is dividing by 1,000, which is for milliliters. The third is the symbol cL against CL. Keep it as cL or cl. The fourth is reading a cl label as a weight: it is a volume. The fifth is rounding a 355 mL can to 33 cl. It is 35.5 cl.
