CM to yards converter, centimeters to yards.

To convert cm to yards, divide the centimeters by 91.44. So 91.44 cm is exactly 1 yard, 100 cm is 1.09361 yards and 150 cm is 1.64042 yards. You can also multiply by 0.0109361, the same thing rounded. The divisor is exact, because a yard is defined as 0.9144 meter, which is 91.44 cm.

Buying fabric from centimeter measurements

A pattern may call for 3.5 yards while your measurements are in centimeters, or the other way round. Convert, then round up to the next 1/8 or 1/4 yard, since fabric is usually sold in fractions of a yard. A curtain drop of 250 cm is 2.734 yards, which rounds up to 3 yards if you allow for hems. A panel 180 cm long is 1.9685 yards, which rounds up to 2 yards. Always add hem and pattern-matching allowance on top of the converted figure, because the converter gives the exact length and nothing more.

Fabric widths

Bolt widths are often given in inches. 45 inches is 114.3 cm, and 60 inches is 152.4 cm. Length is what changes with the yard, not width, so only the length is converted on this page. If you have the width in centimeters, you can read it in inches on the cards or on cm to inches.

A shop that sells by the meter

Some shops list fabric per meter while the pattern is in yards. A pattern for 2.5 yards needs 2.286 m, and a 3 meter piece is 3.281 yards. Since a meter is longer, a price per meter is higher than the price per yard of the same cloth: a price of 8 per yard is 8 ÷ 0.9144 = 8.75 per meter.

The exact numbers

NIST Special Publication 811, Appendix B.8 (checked 26 Oct 2026) states the yard as 0.9144 m exactly. One centimeter is 0.01 m, so 1 yard is 91.44 cm. Dividing by 91.44 does not end, which is why the table rounds to four decimals.

Quick checks

A meter is about 1.09 yards, so 100 cm is a little more than a yard: 1.0936 yards. If you divide by 90, the answer is 1.6 percent high. If you divide by 100 and add 9 percent, you land within 0.5 percent. 270 cm becomes 2.7, plus 9 percent is 2.94, against the exact 2.953.
