Halftone generator, print-shop dots.

Turn a photo into the dot pattern of old newspapers, comics and screen prints: one ink on paper of your colour, four CMYK inks at their classic angles, or bold lines. Set how many dots across and the screen angle, then save a PNG or an SVG that stays sharp at poster size. It runs in this tab, so your picture is never uploaded.

The effect is drawn in your browser. Your picture is never uploaded.

How it works

Dark means big, light means small.

01 / Grid

A turned screen

A grid of cells is laid over the picture at the angle you set; 45 degrees hides the grid best.

02 / Size

Each dot by its cell

Each dot is as big as the picture is dark across its cell, so a solid black cell fills completely.

03 / Inks

One or four

Four inks print cyan, magenta, yellow and black at 15, 75, 0 and 45 degrees, layered like a press.

Questions

Good to know.

Why is the SVG useful?

Each dot is a circle, so the file can be scaled up for a poster or a T-shirt print without going blurry, and opened in Illustrator, Figma or Inkscape.

How many cells should I use?

Fewer cells, around 40 to 70, make a bold pop-art look; 150 or more looks like a printed photo.

Can I make a dithered or pixel version too?

Choose Dither, or open the dither generator.

Is my picture uploaded?

No. Everything happens in this tab.
