Salary to hourly calculator, annual income to pay.

Type your pay for any one period, an hour, a day, a week, two weeks, half a month, a month or a year, and see all the others. You set the hours you work a week and the weeks you work a year, so the standard 40 hours over 52 weeks gives a 2,080 hour year, and you can take off unpaid weeks or add overtime. All figures are before tax. The page shows each step of the working so you can check it against your pay slip.

The maths

Hours a year decide the rate.

01 / Hours a year

40 × 52 = 2,080

Hours a week times weeks paid. Change either and every figure follows.

02 / Hourly rate

Yearly ÷ hours

A 52,000 salary over 2,080 hours is 25 an hour. Every other period comes from the same yearly figure.

03 / Time off and overtime

Unpaid weeks, extra hours

Unpaid weeks cut the hours in the year. Overtime is paid at a multiple of the hourly rate that you set.

Guide

How to turn a salary into an hourly rate, and back.

A salary to hourly calculator turns a yearly salary into the pay for one hour, or the other way round. The sum is the yearly pay divided by the hours you work in a year. For a full time job that is 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, which is 2,080 hours, so a salary of 52,000 is 25 an hour. This calculator also gives the daily, weekly, every-two-weeks, twice-a-month and monthly figures, lets you take off unpaid weeks, and adds overtime if you work it. Everything is before tax.

How to use the calculator

  1. Type your pay in Your pay and choose the period it covers under Paid each. It can be an hour, a day, a week, two weeks, half a month, a month or a year.
  2. Check Hours a week and Days a week. The defaults are 40 and 5.
  3. Check Weeks a year (52 by default) and type any Unpaid weeks.
  4. Read the cards. The big card is the one you most likely want: the hourly rate for a salary, the yearly pay for an hourly wage.
  5. Open More options for overtime hours, the overtime multiple and the 2,087 hour federal year.
  6. Copy result copies every figure, Download (CSV) saves them, and Copy link to these numbers shares your inputs.

The formulas

Hours a year = hours a week × weeks paid. Hourly = yearly ÷ hours a year. Daily = weekly ÷ days a week. Weekly = yearly ÷ weeks paid. Every two weeks is twice the weekly figure. Twice a month is the yearly figure ÷ 24, and monthly is yearly ÷ 12.

52,00025.00200.001,000.004,333.33
60,00028.85230.771,153.855,000.00
70,00033.65269.231,346.155,833.33
100,00048.08384.621,923.088,333.33

All rows use 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. For hourly to yearly, multiply instead: 25 an hour × 2,080 hours is 52,000.

Unpaid weeks

If you are paid by the hour and take unpaid time off, the weeks come off the year. At 25 an hour for 40 hours with 2 unpaid weeks, you are paid for 50 weeks, which is 2,000 hours, so the year is 50,000 and not 52,000. Hourly, daily, weekly and every-two-weeks pay stay the same, because they are for time worked. Monthly and twice-a-month pay are the yearly figure spread over the whole year.

Fewer or more hours

A salary is a fixed yearly sum, so the same salary means a different hourly rate at different hours. 52,000 a year is 25 an hour at 40 hours a week, 28.57 at 35 hours and 22.22 at 45 hours. The table under the cards shows it for a range of weekly hours. This matters when you compare a salaried job with an hourly one.

The 2,087 hour federal year

The US Office of Personnel Management divides a yearly salary by 2,087 hours to get an hourly rate for federal pay. The figure is the average hours in a year over a 28 year cycle of calendar years (OPM fact sheet, checked 18 Oct 2026). A 70,000 salary is 33.65 an hour over 2,080 hours and 33.54 over 2,087 hours. Switch it on in More options if your employer uses that divisor.

Overtime

For employees covered by the US Fair Labor Standards Act, hours over 40 in a workweek must be paid at no less than one and a half times the regular rate. The workweek is a fixed period of 168 hours, and hours cannot be averaged across weeks (US Department of Labor fact sheet 23, checked 18 Oct 2026). Some jobs are exempt, and states can have their own rules. Type the extra hours and the multiple in More options. At 25 an hour, 5 hours of overtime at 1.5 pays 37.50 an hour, which is 187.50 a week, or 9,750 over 52 weeks.

The page treats overtime as extra hours on top of your normal week. It does not decide whether you are owed overtime. Your contract and the law where you work decide that.

Pay periods and pay checks

A year has 52 weeks, so being paid every two weeks gives 26 pay checks, while being paid twice a month gives 24. On 52,000 a year that is 2,000 every two weeks or 2,166.67 twice a month. The two schedules pay the same in a year, but the checks differ in size. With a two week schedule, two months a year have a third pay check, which can feel like a bonus and is not one.

What a raise is worth

A raise of 3 an hour is worth 3 × 2,080 = 6,240 a year at 40 hours a week. A raise from 52,000 to 55,000 is 3,000 a year, which is 1.44 an hour, or 5.77% more. Type your own pay in the boxes to see the same sums for your numbers. Compare offers by converting both to the same period, so an hourly offer and a salary offer line up.

To add up hours and minutes worked, use the hours calculator. For a raise or a share of a number, try the percentage calculator.

Questions

Good to know.

How do I convert a salary to an hourly wage?

Divide the yearly salary by the hours you work in a year. For 40 hours a week over 52 weeks that is 2,080, so 52,000 ÷ 2,080 = 25 an hour.

How many hours are in a work year?

40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080. The US federal pay divisor is 2,087. Your own number depends on your hours and unpaid time.

How do I convert an hourly wage to annual income?

Multiply the hourly rate by the hours in the year. 25 × 2,080 = 52,000. Take off unpaid weeks first if you have any.

Is the result before or after tax?

Before. The page does not take off tax, insurance, retirement savings or other deductions.

How do I include unpaid holiday or vacation?

Type the unpaid weeks. Five unpaid days on a five day week is 1 week. A paid holiday is paid, so leave it out.

How is overtime worked out here?

Overtime hours a week × the hourly rate × the multiple you set (1.5 by default). It is added to the weekly and yearly pay. The page does not decide whether you are owed overtime.

Why is the monthly figure not four times the weekly one?

A year has 52 weeks, which is 4.33 weeks a month. Monthly pay is the yearly pay ÷ 12.
