YouTube tag generator, inside the limit.

Paste your video title and main keyword, add a few lines about the video, and get tags ready to paste into YouTube Studio, plus three hashtags for the description. The counter adds up the 500 characters the way YouTube does, so nothing gets refused. Switch any tag off with a click.

How much tags matter

YouTube's own help says tags play a minimal role in how videos are found, and are most useful for words people often misspell. Your title, thumbnail and description matter far more.

Tags are made in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

YouTube's rules

The limits, from YouTube.

01 / Tags

500 characters

All tags together. The commas between them count, and a tag with a space counts two more for the quotes YouTube adds round it.

02 / Hashtags

Three by the title

Of the hashtags in your description, up to three that YouTube finds most engaging are shown by the title.

03 / Too many

Over 60, none count

If a video has more than 60 hashtags, YouTube ignores every one of them, and over-tagging can get a video removed from search.

Questions

Good to know.

Do tags still help a video rank?

A little. YouTube says tags play a minimal role in discovery and are mostly useful when your topic is often misspelled. Spend your effort on the title, the thumbnail and the first lines of the description, then add a handful of accurate tags.

How many tags should I use?

A few accurate ones beat many loose ones. The tool lists the closest matches first; switch off anything that is not really about your video.

Where do I paste them?

In YouTube Studio, open the video's details, press Show more, and paste into the Tags box. YouTube splits them at the commas.

Where do hashtags go?

At the end of your description, or in the title. Hashtags have no spaces: join words like #ScreenRecording.

Can I copy tags from another video?

Tags from another channel describe their video, not yours, and YouTube's spam rules forbid tags that mislead viewers. Use words that honestly describe your own video.

Is the AI part needed?

No. Tags are built from your words in every browser. In Chrome 148 or later with its built-in AI, Write with AI adds a few more, made on your computer.
