Short answer: Screen Studio has two plans. Monthly is $29 a month. The yearly plan is shown as $9 a month. Both include every feature, says its page. Nine dollars a month for 12 months is $108 a year. One-time licences are no longer sold to new buyers. All numbers come from Screen Studio's own page, checked on 23 October 2026.
Prices change, so trust the live page over this one. This post is by the maker of MotionShine, a Screen Studio alternative, so read it with that in mind. Screen Studio's facts come only from its own pages.

What the yearly plan really costs
The page shows $9 a month for the yearly plan. The text I read did not say how it is billed, so I did not assume. Our check of 14 October 2026 recorded it as billed yearly at $108. The sums, which you can check:
- Yearly: $9 times 12 is $108 a year.
- Monthly: $29 times 12 is $348 a year.
- The gap: $348 minus $108 is $240. The page's "Save 69%" matches, because $9 is about 31% of $29.
Over three years, the yearly plan comes to $324. A subscription has no end date, so the cost keeps running as long as you use it.
What the page does not say
- A free trial or free plan: not found on the page. Our 14 October check noted you could try it but not export without a plan. Confirm in the app.
- A refund policy: not found.
- How many Macs one plan covers: not found.
Is Screen Studio worth it?
Pay for it if you make polished product videos often, you like its look, and a monthly cost is fine for your work. Screen Studio is Mac only. If the videos help you win work or sell a product, $9 a month is easy to cover.
Skip it if you record a few videos a year. $108 a year for four videos is a lot. One month at $29 is the cheaper way to export a single project.
If you do not want a subscription
You have a few paths, depending on what you need:
- The free recorder already on your Mac. It gives a flat video with no zoom. See how to record a video on Mac.
- A one-time purchase. Some alternatives charge once. Prices are in the Screen Studio alternatives list.
- A free option with auto zoom. See free Mac screen recording software.
MotionShine, for the record
MotionShine is by the same person who wrote this post. It is a free Mac screen recorder with auto zoom on clicks, a smooth cursor, click effects and motion blur you can add, and a full editor with text, pictures, music lanes, voice over and on device captions. The free version has no watermark and no time limit, and exports up to 720p at 30 fps. Pro unlocks 1080p, 1440p, 4K and 60 fps for a one-time price.
It is not for you if you need share links, because MotionShine does not make them. It also runs on Mac only.
