Not read well
Styled letters are not plain letters. Screen readers may read them as symbols or skip them, so keep key words plain.
Free tool
Type your text and copy it in 26 styles that show in Discord: bold, italic, script, Fraktur, double-struck, monospace, bubble, squared, small caps, upside down and more. See it in a message preview in dark and light first, add a decoration, and check the length against Discord's 32 character name limit. The Markdown tab helps with Discord's own formatting: bold, underline, spoilers, quotes, headers and code.
The preview follows the syntax in Discord's help article. Spoilers open when you press them. A spoiler inside a code block does not work, as Discord says.

Where it works
Messages: any text. Display names: up to 32 characters, special characters allowed. Server nicknames: with the Change Nickname permission. Usernames: only a to z, 0 to 9, underscore and full stop, so no styles there.
Unicode styles can show as boxes on some devices, and screen readers do not read them well. Keep key words plain.

Use with care
01 / Screen readers
Styled letters are not plain letters. Screen readers may read them as symbols or skip them, so keep key words plain.
02 / Search
Searching for a plain name does not find the styled one. Friends may not find you by it.
03 / Devices
A device needs a font that has the character. Some styles can show as boxes on some devices.
Guide
Discord has no font picker for messages, so a Discord font generator works another way. It swaps each plain letter for a look-alike Unicode character, such as a bold H or a script H, and you paste the result. Because the style is built into the characters, it shows for everyone who reads the message, with no Nitro and no bot. This page makes 26 styles at once, shows them in a Discord-style message in dark and light, and has a Markdown helper for the formatting Discord does by itself.
This comes from Discord's help pages, read on 19 Oct 2026.
Discord also has its own Display Name Styles, a Nitro feature that changes the font, colour and effect of a display name. That is separate. The styles here are characters inside the name, and they need no subscription. Sources: New Usernames and Display Names, Server Nicknames and Display Name Styles.
Discord's article Markdown Text 101 lists what it formats. All of it is in the Markdown tab.
| You type | You get |
|---|---|
*italics* or _italics_ | Italics |
**bold** | Bold |
__underline__ | Underline |
~~strikethrough~~ | Strikethrough |
***bold italics*** or __**underline bold**__ | Combined styles |
||spoiler|| | Hidden until clicked, and not in a code block |
# Title, ## Title, ### Title | Big, medium and small headers, with a space after the marks |
-# small | Subtext, at the start of a line |
[text](link) | A masked link |
- item or * item | A bulleted list, indented by 2 spaces for a sub-list |
`code` and ```block``` | Inline code and a multi-line code block |
> quote and >>> quote | One line, or everything after it |
The article does not mention text colours, so the page does not offer them. Markdown and Unicode styles can be mixed, but check the result in Discord first.
Hi in Bold is 𝐇𝐢. It is 2 characters, and the page counts it as 2, although many systems store each one as two units. In Bubble it is Ⓗⓘ. In Upside down the letters are flipped and the order is reversed, so Hi becomes ᴉH. Squared makes capitals only, so Hi becomes 🄷🄸, and the page says so on that row.
Not every style has every character. Most cover A to Z and a to z and sometimes digits. Italic, Script, Fraktur and Sans italic have no styled digits. Squared and Bubble filled exist in capitals only. A row says Stays plain when your text contains such characters, and lists them.
Unicode styles are different characters from plain letters. A device needs a font that has them, so some styles can show as boxes on some devices. Screen readers do not read them well, and search does not match them with plain text. Use them for a name or a short phrase, and keep key information, links and server rules in plain text.
For more styles outside Discord, use the fancy text generator. For raised and lowered characters, try the superscript generator, and to change capitals, the case converter.
Questions
Discord has no font choice for messages. Copy a style from this page and paste it. The style is part of the characters, so everyone sees it.
No. Discord's Display Name Styles are a Nitro feature, but the styles here are ordinary characters that need no subscription.
No. Discord says new usernames can only use a to z, numbers, underscore and full stop. Use a style in your display name, a server nickname or your messages.
Discord says 1 to 32 characters. The page shows how many your styled text has, and warns past 32.
The device has no font with those characters. Try a style made of more common characters, such as Bold or Small caps. The text is still there.
Not well. Screen readers may read them as symbols or skip them. Keep names and important words plain, and style only a short phrase.
Put || before and after the text. Discord says a code block negates it. Use the Spoiler button in the Markdown tab.
Discord's Markdown article does not list colours, so this page does not offer them.
Yes. It runs in your browser, with no account, and your text is not uploaded.
