Free tool
Make a banner for your Discord profile or your server at the sizes Discord's help pages give. Pick a gradient or your own picture, add your name or a short line, drag everything into place, and keep an eye on the guides while you work. Save a PNG or a JPG, or an animated GIF when you start from one. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
Some text is in an area to keep clear. Move it.

The Discord numbers
01 / Profile
Discord's Custom Profiles page (checked 18 Oct 2026) says profile banners are for Nitro members, as PNG, JPG or animated GIF files under 10 MB, with a minimum size of 680 x 240 pixels.
02 / Server
Discord's Server Banners page (checked 18 Oct 2026) asks for at least 960 x 540 at 16:9. A 1920 x 1080 picture is resized for you. The top 48 px of the file should stay simple.
03 / Not stated
The server banner page gives no file size limit and does not name PNG or JPG. Neither page says where a profile avatar covers the banner. Those are marked as not stated below.
Guide
A Discord banner maker builds the wide picture at the top of your profile or across the top of your server's channel list. Discord has two different banners with different rules, so the first choice is the size. This tool offers both, draws the guides Discord gives, lets you add text and pictures, and saves a PNG or JPG at the size you pick, or an animated GIF when you start from a GIF. The numbers below come from Discord's own help pages, checked on 18 October 2026.
| Profile banner | Server banner | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can use it | Nitro members | Servers at Boosting Level 2 (animated: Level 3), and Discord Partner servers |
| Size | At least 680 x 240 px | At least 960 x 540 px, 16:9 |
| Bigger files | Not stated | 1920 x 1080 is resized in the app |
| File types | PNG, JPG, animated GIF | An image or GIF (PNG and JPG are not named) |
| File size | Under 10 MB | Not stated |
| Keep clear | Not stated | The top 48 px of the file |
Sources: Custom Profiles and Server Banners, both checked 18 Oct 2026. One more note: Discord's Per-Server Profiles page gives 600 x 240 as the recommended minimum for a profile banner, which differs from the 680 x 240 on the Custom Profiles page. The tool follows the larger number, so a banner made here meets both.
For a server banner the tool shades the top 48 px strip. Discord says to keep the top 48 px of the file fairly simple, so the server name is easy to read there. That is 48 of 540 rows, or 8.9% of the height, so at 1920 x 1080 the same share is 96 px. A yellow note appears if text reaches into the strip. For a profile banner Discord gives no keep-clear area, so the guide is a plain thirds grid that helps you line things up. It is a layout aid, not a Discord rule. The guides show only on screen and never in the saved file. Untick Show the guides to see the banner clean.
Discord also advises avoiding a logo or text inside a server banner, because the server name already sits over it. Key art, a character or subtle background art works better. You can still add text here, and for a profile banner there is no such advice, but keep it in mind for a server.
Discord allows an animated GIF for a profile banner (Nitro) and for a server at Boosting Level 3. For a server the GIF plays for 5 seconds when the server loads, then pauses, and it does not animate when the person has reduced motion on. To make one, press Use your picture or GIF and choose an animated GIF, put your text and pictures on top, set File to GIF and press Download the banner. The text and pictures stay still while the GIF moves behind them.
The GIF is saved at the smaller size, 680 x 240 for a profile or 960 x 540 for a server, with up to 300 frames and 256 colours. After saving, the tool tells you the size. A profile banner must be under 10 MB, so a long or busy GIF may be too big; use a shorter clip or a smaller GIF. For a server banner Discord states no size limit.
PNG keeps flat colours and sharp text clean. JPG is smaller for photos. For a profile banner the tool keeps the file under 10 MB: a PNG that would be larger is saved as a JPG, and a JPG has its quality lowered step by step until it fits. For a server banner no limit is applied, since Discord does not state one.
For a channel header, try the YouTube banner maker. To shrink a video for Discord's upload limit, see the Discord video compressor, and to make a GIF from a clip, use the GIF maker.
Questions
Discord's Custom Profiles page says at least 680 x 240 pixels, as a PNG, JPG or animated GIF under 10 MB, for Nitro members (checked 18 Oct 2026).
At least 960 x 540 pixels at 16:9. A 1920 x 1080 picture is resized in the app. Discord does not state a file size limit for it (Server Banners page, checked 18 Oct 2026).
A profile banner needs Nitro. A server banner needs the server to reach Boosting Level 2, or Level 3 for an animated one. Discord Partner servers can use the banner without boosting.
Yes, if you start from an animated GIF. Choose it with Use your picture or GIF, add your text, and set File to GIF. Animated banners need Nitro for a profile and Level 3 for a server.
Discord says to keep the top 48 px of the file fairly simple, so the server name over it is easy to read. The tool shades that strip.
Discord does not state it on its help pages, so the tool draws no avatar guide. Check the crop window Discord shows after you upload.
No. The banner is made in your browser and nothing goes to a server.
A GIF holds every frame at 256 colours, so it grows fast. It is saved at 680 x 240 for a profile or 960 x 540 for a server, the sizes Discord gives as its minimums.
