Free tool

GIF compressor.

Make an animated GIF smaller for a chat, an email or a page that has a size limit. Use fewer colours, drop frames or shrink it, and see the saving. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

The GIF is read and written in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How it works

Three steps, nothing to install.

01 / Drop

Choose a GIF

Drag in an animated GIF. The page shows its frames and size.

02 / Pick

Choose how to shrink it

Fewer colours, fewer frames or a smaller size. Each one makes the file lighter.

03 / Save

Compress and download

The GIF is written again. See how much smaller it is, then download it.

Questions

Good to know.

Is my GIF uploaded?

No. It is read and written in this tab with your browser, so it never leaves your computer.

Which setting saves the most?

Making it smaller saves the most, then dropping frames, then fewer colours. Combine them for a big saving.

Does it change how long the GIF plays?

No. When frames are dropped, the kept frames stay on screen longer, so the GIF plays at the same speed and length.

Why is my GIF not smaller?

A GIF that is already well compressed can come out the same size or larger. Try fewer frames or a smaller size.

Would an MP4 be smaller?

Usually, by a lot. If the place you share it takes video, use the GIF to MP4 converter.

Which browsers work?

Current Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox.
