Free tool

Image color picker, and its palette.

Drop in a picture or paste a screenshot, then click any pixel to get its colour as HEX, RGB and HSL. A magnifier shows the exact pixel under your pointer. The main colours of the whole picture are pulled out as a palette you can copy as CSS, JSON or a swatch picture.

Colours are read in your browser. The picture is never uploaded.

Colour codes

One colour, three ways to write it.

01 / HEX

#9B7DFF

Red, green and blue as two hexadecimal digits each. The usual code for websites and design apps.

02 / RGB

rgb(155 125 255)

The same three amounts from 0 to 255. Handy in code and in apps that ask for numbers.

03 / HSL

hsl(254 100% 75%)

Hue, saturation and lightness. Easy to make a colour lighter, darker or calmer by hand.

Questions

Good to know.

Why is the colour slightly different from my design file?

JPG compression and colour profiles shift colours a little. A PNG screenshot of the design gives the most exact value. The tool reads the pixel exactly as the browser shows it.

How is the palette made?

The picture is shrunk and its pixels are grouped into the number of colours you choose (k-means clustering). Each swatch is the average of one group, and the share shows how much of the picture it covers.

Can I pick a colour outside the picture?

In Chrome and Edge, yes: "Pick from anywhere on screen" turns the pointer into an eyedropper for anything on your screen. Safari and Firefox do not offer this yet, so the button is hidden there.

Can I use it on a screenshot?

Yes. Take a screenshot (on a Mac, Shift Command 4, then hold Control to copy it), click this page and press Command V.

Is my picture uploaded?

No. The picture is read in this browser tab.
