01 / Read
Every old tag shown
ID3v2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 are read, and an old ID3v1 tag is used when there is no newer one. The existing cover is shown.
Free tool
Change the title, artist, album, year, track number, genre and cover picture of your MP3 files, one file or a whole album at once. This online MP3 tag editor reads and writes ID3 tags in your browser and saves the files or a ZIP. The music itself is never touched, and the page proves it by checking the audio data before and after.

Saving
Your files are read and saved in your browser and never uploaded. The music data is not re-encoded.
How it works
01 / Read
ID3v2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 are read, and an old ID3v1 tag is used when there is no newer one. The existing cover is shown.
02 / Edit
Select several songs and a change goes to all of them. Fields that differ stay empty until you type, so nothing is overwritten by accident.
03 / Save
The audio part is copied byte for byte, and its SHA-256 is compared before and after. Frames the editor does not show, such as lyrics, are kept.
Guide
An MP3 tag editor changes the text and picture stored inside an MP3 file: the title, artist, album, year, track number, genre and cover art that music apps and phones show. This free online MP3 tag editor writes those ID3 tags in your browser and gives you the file back, with the music data exactly as it was. Nothing is uploaded, so it is safe for unreleased music and private recordings.
Select all the songs, type the album, album artist, year and genre once, and add one cover. Then press Number tracks in list order: the files get 1/10, 2/10 and so on, using the order of the list. If your files are named like 03 - Artist - Song.mp3, Fill from file names reads the track, artist and title from the name. Check the result before you save, because a file name that does not follow the pattern is read as a title only. Under File names you can have the saved files named Artist - Title, or 01 Title.
| Field | ID3v2 frame | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Title, Artist, Album | TIT2, TPE1, TALB | Any letters. Non-Latin text is saved as Unicode. |
| Album artist | TPE2 | Groups an album under one name when songs have guest artists. |
| Year | TYER (2.3), TDRC (2.4) | Four digits. |
| Track, Disc | TRCK, TPOS | A number, or number/total such as 4/9. |
| Genre | TCON | Written as plain words, such as Jazz. |
| Cover | APIC | Saved as "Cover (front)", picture type 3. |
The frame names and the track format come from the ID3v2.3 specification on id3.org, checked 26 Oct 2026. It describes the track as a number that may be extended as N/M, for example 4/9, and the year as always four characters.
ID3v2.3 is the default because every player reads it, including older car stereos, Windows and iTunes. Text outside Latin-1 is saved as Unicode with a byte order mark, as that version asks. ID3v2.4 is the newer version and stores text as UTF-8 with a single date field. Pick it only if you know your player wants it. Frames the editor does not show, such as lyrics, comments from other programs and ReplayGain, are carried over to the new version.
Some files end with a 128-byte ID3v1 tag, the oldest format. According to id3.org (checked 26 Oct 2026) its title, artist and album are 30 bytes each and its year is 4. If a file has one, the editor updates it to match, cutting long names at 30 characters and replacing letters outside Latin-1 with a question mark. Files without one do not get one.
When a file is loaded, the page works out the SHA-256 of everything after the tag, which is the music. After saving it does the same on the new file and stops with an error if the two differ. The status line above the files says when they matched. To check it yourself, use the file hash checker on the audio, or compare the length and bitrate of the old and new file in any player.
To cut a song before tagging it, use the audio cutter. To make the files smaller, try the MP3 compressor, which keeps the title and cover.

No. The music data is copied as it is and never re-encoded. The page compares a SHA-256 of that part before and after saving, so you can see it is identical.
No. Files are read and written in your browser, on your computer. Nothing is sent to a server.
ID3v1 is a fixed 128-byte block at the end of the file with short fields. ID3v2 sits at the start, holds longer text, any letters and pictures. Almost every file today uses ID3v2.
