Free tool

MP3 compressor, smaller audio files.

Make a song, podcast or voice recording small enough for email, WhatsApp or an upload limit. Pick a bitrate, choose mono for speech, and listen to the result with its new size before you download it. Works with MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG and FLAC; the result is an MP3.

The sound is changed in your browser. It is never uploaded.

How it works

Three steps, nothing to install.

01 / Sound

Drop the file

An MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC.

02 / Bitrate

Lower bitrates make smaller files; mono halves it again.

Listen and download

Hear the result and its size before you save.

Questions

Good to know.

Which bitrate should I pick?

For speech, such as podcasts and voice notes, 48 to 64 kbps mono sounds clear. For music, 128 kbps is a good balance and 96 kbps is noticeably smaller with a little less sparkle.

How small will it get?

Size follows bitrate and length: one minute at 64 kbps is about 0.5 MB, at 128 kbps about 1 MB. The tool shows the exact size after compressing.

Will it sound worse?

Lower bitrates remove detail you are least likely to hear, but below 64 kbps music loses sparkle. Compressing an MP3 that is already small can only make it worse, so listen before you save.

Can I compress a video?
