Video compressor.

Make a big screen recording small enough to email or upload. Set a target size such as 25 MB, or pick a quality level. It runs in your browser, so the file is never uploaded and there is no watermark.

This runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

How it works

Three steps, nothing to install.

01 / Drop

Choose your video

Drag in the file. It is read in your browser and stays on your Mac.

02 / Set

Pick a size or a quality

Type a target size in megabytes, or choose a quality level, and optionally a smaller picture size.

03 / Save

Compress and download

The video is re-encoded here. You see the new size, and you can play it before you download it.

Questions

Good to know.

Is my video uploaded?

No. It is compressed in this tab with your browser, so the file never leaves your Mac.

How does it make the file smaller?

It re-encodes the video at a lower bitrate, and at a smaller picture size if you choose one. The sound is copied as it is. Screen recordings are often large because they are saved at a high bitrate.

How exact is the target size?

It is close but not exact. The page works out a bitrate from your target and the length of the video, and it tells you the real size afterwards. If the result is above your target, lower the target or pick a smaller picture size and run it again.

Will it always be smaller?

Not always. A video that is already compressed well can come out the same size or larger, and the page says so when that happens.

Does it lose quality?

Yes, a little. Any compression that makes a file smaller removes some detail. Balanced is a good start for screen recordings, and High keeps more.

Which browsers work?

Current Chrome, Edge and Safari, which can encode H.264 video. The file has to be one your browser can play.
