How does the click select a person?
A small open model, ormbg (Apache 2.0 licence, served from this site), finds the main subject in a square around your click, and the part under your click is painted red, a little larger than the person so their outline goes too. If it picks too much or too little, switch the brush to Erase or Paint and fix it.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Both models run in this tab: the selection model comes from this site and the filling model from Hugging Face, the open model library. The photo never leaves your computer.
Which AI model fills the space?
LaMa (big-lama), an open image inpainting model from Samsung AI Center researchers, released under the Apache 2.0 licence, in an ONNX version made by Carve. Each painted spot is filled on its own, so the rest of the photo keeps its full sharpness. The model is 208 MB and downloads once.
What works best?
People in front of simple or repeating backgrounds: sky, sand, grass, water, a wall, a street. A person who covers a lot of the photo, or stands in front of detailed things such as other people, leaves a bigger hole to guess, so the fill can look soft. Paint their shadow too, if they have one.
Can I remove several people?
Yes. Click each one before you press Remove, or remove them one at a time and undo any step that looks wrong.
Is the photo made smaller?
No, it is saved at its own size, up to 4096 pixels on the long side. Only the painted area changes.
