Questions
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser and runs there, so the picture never leaves your computer. That also means there is no daily limit and no low resolution preview: you get the full size, free.
The AI that finds the subject has to run somewhere. Here it runs on your computer, so the page downloads it the first time: 88 MB in browsers with WebGPU, which use the graphics card, or a smaller 44 MB version that runs on the processor. Your browser keeps it, so the next picture starts right away.
ormbg, the Open Remove Background Model, released under the Apache 2.0 licence. It is based on the DIS research (ISNet) for cutting out objects and was made for photos of people, so it is strongest on portraits. In our tests it also cut out a logo cleanly.
Clean removes the faint haze a soft cut can leave around the subject, and suits most pictures. Soft keeps every half see-through pixel, which helps with hair, fur and glass. Sharp gives hard edges, good for logos and objects.
Pictures where the subject and the background are the same colour, very small subjects in a busy scene, and see-through things like a glass of water. Try Soft edges for these, or crop closer to the subject first with the image cropper.
Browsers with WebGPU, such as current Chrome and Edge, use the graphics card and are fastest. Other current browsers run the smaller model on the processor, which takes longer but gives a similar result.
