Free tool

Remove text from an image.

Take captions, date stamps, labels, names or any words off a picture. The page finds the text for you and paints it red; you check it, add or erase, and an open AI model fills each spot with what should be behind it. It runs in this tab, so the picture is never uploaded. No sign-up, no watermark.

This runs in your browser. Your pictures are never uploaded.

How it works

Three steps, nothing to install.

01 / Drop

Remove and save

Each spot is filled from its surroundings. Undo any step, then download.

Questions

Good to know.

How does it find the text?

With the text detector of PaddleOCR (PP-OCRv3, Apache 2.0 licence), a small open model of 2.4 MB served from this site. It marks where there is writing, in any language, without reading it, and the page paints a box over each line. Very small, faint or curved text can be missed, so look over the picture and paint the rest by hand.

Is my picture uploaded?

No. The text finder is served from this site and the filling model is downloaded to your browser from Hugging Face, the open model library. Both run in this tab, so the picture never leaves your computer.

Which AI model fills the space?

LaMa (big-lama), an open image inpainting model from Samsung AI Center researchers, released under the Apache 2.0 licence, in an ONNX version made by Carve. Each painted spot is filled on its own, so the rest of the picture keeps its full sharpness. The model is 208 MB and downloads once.

What works best?

Text on plain, smooth or repeating backgrounds: sky, walls, a solid banner, a gradient. Text over faces, detailed patterns or other text is harder; the fill can look smudged there. Remove a few words at a time and undo anything that looks wrong.

Can I keep some of the text?

Yes. Click a red box to take the paint off that text, and click it again to put it back. For part of a box, switch the brush to Erase.

Is the picture made smaller?

No, it is saved at its own size, up to 4096 pixels on the long side. Only the painted spots change.
