Typing test, how fast are you?

Start typing the words below and the clock starts with you. After 1 to 5 minutes you get your speed in words per minute, your accuracy, and the words you got wrong, so you know what to practise. Use common words, add capitals and punctuation, or paste your own text. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Test

Tab starts a new test. Backspace fixes mistakes, but the first try at each key is what counts for accuracy.

The test runs in your browser. Your best score is kept in this browser only.

How it is counted

The usual rules, shown plainly.

01 / WPM

Five characters a word

Correct characters, spaces included, divided by five, per minute. Long and short words count fairly.

02 / Accuracy

First tries

The share of keys that were right when you pressed them. Fixing a mistake helps your WPM, not your accuracy.

03 / Practice

Your weak words

Every word you mistyped is listed with what you typed, so the next round can target them.

Questions

Good to know.

What is raw WPM?

Every character you typed, right or wrong, divided by five, per minute. The gap between raw and net WPM shows how much mistakes cost you.

Which length should I pick?

One minute is a quick check. Three or five minutes show the pace you can hold, which is closer to real writing.

How do I get faster?

Aim for accuracy first; speed follows. Keep your eyes on the screen, not the keys, and practise the words in your list.

Is my score saved?

Only your best speed for each length, in this browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
