White noise, pink and brown too.

Press play for a steady wash of sound that covers chatter, traffic and the hum of an office. Pick white, pink or brown noise, soften the tone until it feels right, and set a timer that fades it out when you fall asleep or your focus block ends. You can also save a stretch as an MP3 to play anywhere. The noise is made in your browser; nothing is streamed or recorded.

Three colours

Same idea, different weight.

01 / White

Every pitch, equal

Equal energy at every frequency, so it sounds bright, like a detuned radio. It covers the most, and tires some ears.

02 / Pink

Softer as it rises

Each octave up is 3 dB quieter, so it sounds even to the ear, like steady rain.

03 / Brown

Deep and low

Each octave up is 6 dB quieter, a rumble like a waterfall or a plane cabin. Named after Brownian motion, not the colour.

Questions

Good to know.

Which noise is best for focus or sleep?

It is personal. Many people find white too sharp for long stretches and settle on pink or brown; try each for a minute at a low volume and keep the one you stop noticing.

How loud should it be?

Just loud enough to cover what bothers you, and no louder. Keep it low, especially with headphones or for long nights.

Will the MP3 loop without a gap?

Inside the file there are no gaps. The file fades in at the start and out at the end, so if a player repeats it you hear a gentle dip, not a click.

Does it work with the Pomodoro timer?

Yes. Open the Pomodoro timer in another tab and set this one to fade out after 25 minutes.

Is anything recorded or uploaded?

No. The noise is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
