01 / Length
Enter the length
Type the hours, minutes and seconds of the video.
Free tool
Work out how big a video file will be from its bitrate and length, or which bitrate keeps it under a size limit, such as an email attachment or an upload cap.
This is plain arithmetic in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
How it works
01 / Length
Type the hours, minutes and seconds of the video.
02 / Rate
Give the video bitrate to get the size, or the size to get the bitrate.
03 / Answer
The answer updates as you type. Use the bitrate in your recorder, editor or compressor.
Questions
Size = (video bitrate + sound bitrate) x seconds, divided by 8 to turn bits into bytes. One megabyte here is one million bytes.
The container (MP4 or MOV) adds a small amount of data on top of the picture and sound. The target size mode keeps 5 percent spare for it.
Screen recordings with still areas need less than camera footage at the same size. Check the result by eye: if text looks soft or blocky, raise the bitrate.
Yes. Choose Bitrate for a target size, enter 25 and the length, and use that bitrate. Or let the video compressor do it for you.
Megabits per second: how much data each second of video uses. 8 Mbps is 8 million bits, or 1 megabyte, every second.
No. The page does the sum in your browser.
