WebP to GIF, every frame kept.

Some apps and sites still will not take a WebP. Drop an animated WebP here and get a GIF that plays anywhere, with every frame and its timing. Pick the width, the number of colours and the speed, keep the see-through parts or fill them with a colour. A still WebP becomes a one-frame GIF.

The WebP is read and the GIF is written in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How it works

Frame by frame, timing kept.

01 / Read

Every frame, with its time

Your browser's own image decoder reads each frame of the WebP and how long it shows.

02 / Write

Only what changed

After the first frame, pixels that did not change are left see-through, which keeps the GIF small.

03 / Limits

GIF has 256 colours

A GIF frame holds at most 256 colours and plays no faster than 20 ms a frame, so smooth gradients can show bands.

Questions

Good to know.

Why is the GIF bigger than the WebP?

GIF is a much older format with weaker compression. Fewer colours, a smaller width or fewer frames make it lighter; GIF compressor can shrink it more.

Does it keep transparency?

Yes, as GIF allows: each pixel is either fully see-through or solid. Soft edges can look rough on dark backgrounds, so you can fill with a colour instead.

Which browsers read every frame?

Chrome and Edge read every frame of an animated WebP. A browser without the image decoder gets the first frame only, and the page tells you.

Is it uploaded?

No. The file is read and the GIF is made in your browser.
