3GP to MP4, old phone videos, saved.

Videos from older Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson phones, and many MMS clips, are 3GP files, often with H.263 pictures and AMR sound that current players refuse. Drop one here and get an MP4 that plays everywhere, sound included. A small FFmpeg made for this site reads it in your browser, so your memories are never uploaded.

Questions

Good to know.

Why does my 3GP play without sound?

Many 3GP videos store sound as AMR, which most players and browsers no longer read. This page decodes AMR and saves it as AAC, so the MP4 has its sound.

Will it make the video sharper?

No. Old phone videos are often 176 x 144 or 320 x 240 pixels, and converting keeps that size. To make one bigger, use the video resizer afterwards.

Is my video uploaded?

No. It is read and converted in your browser.

What is a 3G2 file?

A close cousin of 3GP used by some phone networks. It is read the same way.

What about other old formats?

AVI, WMV and FLV have their own pages.
