WMV to MP4, Windows videos that play on a Mac.

WMV files from Windows Movie Maker, old cameras, screen recorders and email attachments will not open in QuickTime, on an iPhone or on most websites. Drop one here and get an MP4 that plays everywhere. A small FFmpeg made for this site reads the WMV in your browser, so the video is never uploaded. No sign-up, no watermark.

This runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

How it works

An old format, read in your browser.

01 / Read

WMV 7, 8 and 9

The reader handles Windows Media Video 7, 8 and 9 and VC-1, with WMA sound, the formats WMV files used for years.

02 / Convert

H.264 and AAC

Each frame is drawn and saved again as H.264, and the sound as AAC: the MP4 every device plays.

03 / Save

Check, then download

Play the MP4 right here, then download it.

Questions

Good to know.

Why will QuickTime not open my WMV?

WMV is a Windows Media format. QuickTime on a Mac does not play it, and iPhones and most web players need MP4 or MOV instead.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The reader runs in your browser, so the video stays on your computer.

Does it work with protected WMV files?

No. WMV files locked with Windows Media DRM, such as old rented films, cannot be read.

How long does it take?

Every frame is read and saved again, so a long video takes a while; the page shows the time left as it works. Keep the tab open until it finishes.

What about other formats?

AVI, FLV and 3GP have their own pages, and the video converter handles MOV, MKV and WebM.
