How it works
01 / Five plus one
6 × 7 is 5 × 7 = 35, plus one more 7. That makes 42.
02 / Even times six
6 × 4 = 24 ends in 4. 6 × 8 = 48 ends in 8. The answer for an even number ends in that number.
03 / Double threes
6 × 7 is the 3 table fact 21 doubled, which is 42.
Guide
The 6 times table lists the multiples of 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, 60, 66, 72 up to 6 × 12. It has a neat rule for even numbers and links to the 3 and 12 tables. The tool above shows the table, hides answers for self-testing, runs a scored quiz with a hint for every miss, and prints a chart or sheet.
| Sum | Answer | A way to work it out |
|---|---|---|
| 6 × 1 | 6 | 5 × 1 = 5, plus 1 = 6 |
| 6 × 2 | 12 | 5 × 2 = 10, plus 2 = 12 |
| 6 × 3 | 18 | 5 × 3 = 15, plus 3 = 18 |
| 6 × 4 | 24 | 5 × 4 = 20, plus 4 = 24 |
| 6 × 5 | 30 | 5 × 5 = 25, plus 5 = 30 |
| 6 × 6 | 36 | 5 × 6 = 30, plus 6 = 36 |
| 6 × 7 | 42 | 5 × 7 = 35, plus 7 = 42 |
| 6 × 8 | 48 | 5 × 8 = 40, plus 8 = 48 |
| 6 × 9 | 54 | 5 × 9 = 45, plus 9 = 54 |
| 6 × 10 | 60 | 5 × 10 = 50, plus 10 = 60 |
| 6 × 11 | 66 | 5 × 11 = 55, plus 11 = 66 |
| 6 × 12 | 72 | 5 × 12 = 60, plus 12 = 72 |
When you multiply 6 by an even number, the answer ends in the same digit. 6 × 2 = 12, 6 × 4 = 24, 6 × 6 = 36, 6 × 8 = 48. The tens digit is half the number: 1, 2, 3, 4. This holds for 2, 4, 6 and 8. 6 × 10 = 60 and 6 × 12 = 72 also end in 0 and 2, matching the 10 and the 12, though the tens digit is no longer half.
Six is 5 + 1. If you know the 5 table, add one more group. 6 × 8 is 5 × 8 = 40, plus 8, which is 48. 6 × 9 is 45 + 9 = 54. 6 × 12 is 60 + 12 = 72.
The 6 table is the 3 table doubled: 3 × 8 = 24 and 6 × 8 = 48. It is also half of the 12 table: 12 × 7 = 84 and 6 × 7 = 42.
The ones digit goes 6, 2, 8, 4, 0, then 6, 2, 8, 4, 0 again, repeating every five steps. Every answer is even, because 6 is even.
Set Go up to to 20 and the tool shows these as well. For any of them, split the number: 6 × 13 is 6 × 10 plus 6 × 3, which is 60 + 18 = 78.
| Sum | Answer |
|---|---|
| 6 × 13 | 78 |
| 6 × 14 | 84 |
| 6 × 15 | 90 |
| 6 × 16 | 96 |
| 6 × 17 | 102 |
| 6 × 18 | 108 |
| 6 × 19 | 114 |
| 6 × 20 | 120 |
