Why convert a PDF to Markdown?
Markdown is plain text with light marks for headings and lists, so AI chat tools, note apps and code sites read it well. Pasting Markdown into an AI tool keeps the structure of a long document while using less room than a PDF.
How does it find headings?
The size used by most of the text is taken as normal text. Larger sizes become headings, the largest as level 1; short bold lines can become headings too. Check the result for documents with unusual layouts.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
No: a scan has pictures of words, not text. Use PDF to text with OCR first.
What about tables and pictures?
Pictures are left out, and tables come out as text in reading order. Use Extract images for the pictures.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. It is read and converted in this browser tab.
