Guide

Which one to use.

Which PDF tool do you need?

To change what is on a page, use the PDF editor or Sign PDF. To change the file itself, use Merge PDF, Split PDF, Delete PDF pages, Rotate PDF or Organize PDF. To make it smaller, use Compress PDF, or Compress PDF to 100 KB for upload forms with a size cap. To get something else out of it, use PDF to Word, PDF to JPG, PDF to Excel or PDF to text, and OCR PDF for scans that are only pictures of text.

Making a PDF from something else

Word to PDF, JPG to PDF, PNG to PDF, HEIC to PDF, Excel to PDF, HTML to PDF and Markdown to PDF all turn another file into a PDF. The document scanner turns phone photos of paper into a clean PDF.

Passwords and private documents

Unlock PDF removes a password you know, and Protect PDF adds one. Redact PDF blacks out text for good, rather than drawing a box over it, and Flatten PDF fixes form fields and notes into the page so they cannot be changed.

Questions

Good to know.

Are these PDF tools really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.

Are my PDF files uploaded?

The PDF tools read your file inside the browser tab. A few, such as the PDF translator, download a model to your browser the first time; each tool page says exactly what happens to your file.

Can I edit a PDF on a Mac without Adobe Acrobat?

Yes. Preview on a Mac can mark up and sign, and the PDF editor here adds text, pictures, highlights and white-out in any browser.

Which tool makes a PDF smaller?

Compress PDF. If a form asks for a file under a set size, Compress PDF to 100 KB aims for that size directly.
