Free tool

Word to PDF, see it before you save.

Turn a .docx into a PDF that looks the same on every screen. The pages are laid out here so you can check them, then your browser's own Save as PDF writes the file, with text you can select and search. Nothing is uploaded. No sign-up, no watermark.

This runs in your browser. Your documents are never uploaded.

How it works

Three steps, nothing to install.

01 / Drop

Choose the document

Any .docx. Its pages appear here as they will be in the PDF.

02 / Check

Look over the pages

Scroll through them before you save, so there are no surprises.

03 / Save

Save as PDF

Your browser writes the PDF at the document's own page size.

Questions

Good to know.

Is my document uploaded?

No. It is opened and laid out in this tab, and your browser writes the PDF on your computer. Nothing is sent anywhere, which matters for contracts, CVs and anything private.

Why does a print window open?

Your browser's print engine is what makes the PDF: it keeps text as real text and embeds the fonts, which a page drawn as pictures would not. Pick Save as PDF as the destination and press Save. Nothing is printed.

Will it look exactly like in Word?

Very close for most documents: text, styles, lists, tables, pictures, headers and footers come across, and Word's own page breaks are followed. Two things can differ. If the document uses fonts your computer does not have, such as Calibri on a Mac without Office, a similar font is used and lines can wrap a little differently. Text boxes, charts, SmartArt and equations may be simplified.

Can it convert an old .doc file?

No, only .docx. Open the .doc in Word, Pages or Google Docs, save it as .docx, then drop that here.

What about a Google Docs file?

In Google Docs choose File, Download, Microsoft Word (.docx), then drop that file here. Google Docs can also download a PDF directly.

Which browsers work?

Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. In Safari the print window has a PDF button at the bottom left.
