What the browser sees
Sharp screens draw each point with two or three pixels, so text stays the same size but looks crisper. Web pages are laid out in these points.

Pixel ratio
Pixels per point. 2 on most Macs and many phones, 1 on many office monitors, and values like 1.25 or 1.5 on scaled Windows screens.

Why is the number different from my screen's spec?
On a Mac set to a scaled size ("Looks like" in Displays settings), macOS draws at that size times two, which can differ from the panel's native pixels. Browser zoom also changes the pixel ratio: press command 0 on a Mac or Ctrl 0 on Windows to reset zoom, then look again.
How do I check my resolution on a Mac?
Apple menu, System Settings, Displays. The size under "Looks like" is in points; the screen's pixels are usually twice that on a Retina display.
How do I check it on Windows?
Settings, System, Display, Display resolution. The "Recommended" value is the screen's native size. Scale on the same page is the pixel ratio shown here, as a percentage.
What resolution should I record my screen at?
Recording at the screen's own size keeps text sharp. If the video is for the web, a 1080p or 1440p export is usually enough and much smaller than 4K or 5K.
